Clay Rhodes has been a busy guy in recent weeks.
Wednesday, he made the most recent of his visits, to Columbia. Mo. for an unofficial visit with the Tigers. Head Coach Gary Pinkel and his staff were the first to offer the 6-foot-6, 265-pound junior offensive tackle from Stilwell (KS) Blue Valley High.
Rhodes called the visit "awesome."
"All of the facilities were just incredible," he said. "They were mind-blowing."
After touring the facilities, he and the small handful of prospects on unofficials as well split off to meet with their respective position coaches, and Rhodes got to spend some individual time with Pinkel.
"We got to meet with Coach Pinkel for a while and we talked, just talked about life," Rhodes said. "He just wanted to find out what kind of person I was. I really do like him a lot."
This weekend, he was scheduled to take another visit, this time to Iowa State. However, he'll make a return trip to Lawrence, Kan. instead, to take in the Jayhawks basketball team's regular season finale versus Texas.
He's still interested in Iowa State, Rhodes said, but just a little burned out from the constant travel.
Kansas extended Rhodes an offer a week ago, and since then they've turned up the heat.
"I've been talking to (offensive line) Coach (Tim) Grunhard every day over Facebook," he said. "And (recent Kansas commitment) Ben Johnson texted me today. I was talking to him a little bit. I've been talking a lot with KU still, and I'm excited to get back to Lawrence."
