Here are the highlights of the conversation with Kalen Grimes:

Q: Tell us about your Colorado Springs trip coming up?

A: Oh it's a USA Olympic men's traning camp in Colorado Springs. It's composed of the top 24 high school players on the East and West teams, and they have 12 men on each team and they go against each other. I think that's how it's ran.

Q: Tell us a little about your game, describe your build and your style of game

A: 6' 8 1/2", 265 pounds. I am kind of built like Ben Wallace or Karl Malone. I like to play the post and the power forward. I like to bang down low. The strength of my game is not just in my muscles, but also being able to jump and dunk, and the hook shot that I have. I have to say those are the strengths of my game, being able to play in the post and I do that pretty well.

Q: Of your final 3 schools, KU, Mizzou and Illinois, do you have a leader at this point?

A: The way I'll answer that question is, if I had to choose a school today it'd be Kansas, not because of the school, but of the coach. Coach Self, I've built a really strong background around him. He's just a great coach and I like the way he's been recruiting me. He's been recruiting me since I was in the 8th grade. I feel really comfortable with Coach Self and I feel that we have a lot in common, and as a coach I respect him.

Q: When do you anticipate making your decision?

A: Sometime after I get done with all these camps, because after I get out of Colorado of course I go to Nike All-American and from there we have the Peach Jam in Augusta, Georgia. From Augusta, Georgia we have Super Showcase in Atlanta and from there we have nationals in Orlando...and sometime you know when I get done, I'll have time to sit down and talk with my family and coaches and decide on my school.

Q: So Kansas would be your favorite if you decided today, is there any other order for the schools behind Kansas at this point?

A: I think that Missouri and Illinois are kind of tied. They both have great coaches and they both are great schools. Until I take those visits and really get to know those coaches, I'd have to say Kansas is in the lead right now.

Q: Have you had a chance to visit Lawrence yet?

A: The last time I went to Lawrence was my freshman year when we had a tournament there. I can't remember what tournament it was...I think it was the Jayhawk Invitational. Thats the only time that I've visited Kansas, but I know Coach Roberts and Coach Self personally. I haven't got a chance to visit with much of the other staff, but Coach Roberts and Coach Self have done a great job of recruiting me.

Q: Does it excite you that Kansas has produced such quality big men? David Padgett coming in this season and he might be a player you get to team up with in the post?

A: Yeah I was listening today on how many big men kansas has recruited into the NBA. It's exciting to know that Kansas has a way of producing big men for the NBA. That's a plus for me and Kansas is an elite school, and there is only 8 elite schools and Kansas is one of them and that really excites me. I plan, if I do attend Kansas, to get in there and help make a big difference.
