Coach's Take: Anthony Barber

Anthony "Cat" Barber has had a strong spring on the AAU circuit for the legendary Virginia-based Nike squad Boo Williams. Monday, spent a few minutes on the phone with the man for whom the team is named, for a quick update on the progress of his five-star point guard both on the court and in his recruitment.

Anthony "Cat" Barber is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2013, a 6-foot-1 point guard who is as fast with the ball on the court as he is quiet off it.

Recently, spent a few minutes on the phone with Boo Williams - the legendary AAU basketball coach from Virginia who helms the Nike-sponsored squad that bears his name. Williams has coached a number of McDonald's All-American and NBA prospects throughout his career, and this season he's coaching a handful with that type of potential yet again, including Barber.

Though summer has yet to officially begin, Williams is pleased with the progress his point guard is making, and made special note of his athleticism.

"He's progressing," Williams said, of Barber. "He's getting the point guard position down."

Where has he shown the most progress?

"His leadership on the court," Williams said. "He's getting better and better leading on the court. The point guard position is a tough position, so he's getting better at that."

Being pursued by the likes of Alabama, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech, Barber has no shortage of options in his recruitment.

And though Williams understandably didn't want to speak for his star prospect as to favorites, he did mention that the Crimson Tide and the Jayhawks had been recruiting him hard, and for longer than most.
