When a prospect commits to a basketball powerhouse like the University of Kansas before his final season of AAU basketball, it plants a rather sizable target on his back for the duration of that last year of summer ball.
Conner Frankamp is committed to Kansas. Has been for a while. And to be honest, he doesn't mind the heat it brings from the opposition.
He relishes it.
"I do feel like there's a target on my back, but I like that," Frankamp said. "It makes me play better and makes me bring my A-game every time."
The 6-foot point guard and his teammates with KC Run GMC are off to a strong start to the AAU season, recording one tournament win and acquitting themselves well in two others. Individually, he feels like he's been on point thus far.
"I've been playing really good," Frankamp said. "I've been shooting the ball really good. I've been working on my shot a lot and I feel like it has been paying off."
During the early evaluation period, he had the chance to play several games in front of his future head coach, Bill Self, and he made the most of the opportunity.
"It was fun," Frankamp noted. "It was cool to see him there. I still played my regular game and didn't let that bother me."
This weekend, KC Run GMC is slated for the Under Armour "Are You From Here" Classic in Dallas.
