Texas DT high on Kansas

"Big" is important for defensive tackles in the world of college football. "Big and quick" is even better. Ben Hughes possesses both of these traits, which is why he's rated a four-star prospect and is one of the top defensive tackles in the Class of 2013. Phog.net spent a few minutes with the Waco (TX) University product discussing his recruitment.

The Kansas Jayhawks began recruiting Ben Hughes of Waco (TX) University High back in February, and since then have developed a strong relationship with the 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle.

Led by quarterbacks coach Ron Powlus, they've made an impression and kept the heat on.

"He's an alright dude," Hughes said. "I think I can get along with him."

With eight offers already on his plate, the four-star defensive tackle has formed a tentative top five of Tulsa, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Indiana and Mississippi State.

Of Tulsa and Kansas, he knows the most.

"They're good schools," Hughes said. "Tulsa is a good school. Kansas is the same."

Hughes has a busy summer ahead of him, and isn't sure which schools he'll be able to visit. However, he does intend to visit a handful this summer with his mother.

Check back with Scout.com for more on his recruitment as it develops.
