"I am real happy. I feel good about Kansas. I've loved it ever since I first visited there," said Jackson, who attended the last two Late Night With Roy Williams on unofficial recruiting trips. Darnell Jackson, the 6-foot-9, 235-pound power forward from Midwest City High in Oklahoma City, told several analysts that his friendship with incoming KU freshmen J.R. Giddens and Jeremy Case helped persuade him to give a non-binding oral commitment to Self late Friday.
Jackson should have the opportunity to contribute immediately when he joins the Jayhawks for the 2004-05 season. When Jeff Graves' eligibility expires this spring, KU will have only two proven post players returning in Wayne Simien and David Padgett. Jackson, Kansas coaches are hoping, will be the perfect complement to the two big men.
Oral commitments are non-binding. Jackson is expected to sign a letter of intent with Kansas in November. Jackson played in the Nike All-America camp in Indianapolis last week, where TheInsiders.com ranked him as the No. 28 player attending.
Phog.net is pleased to be the first to break the news that the University of Kansas has received a verbal commitment from Darnell Jackson, a 6'8 PF out of Oklahoma City, OK. (Quotes from Eric Bossi and Dave Telep.)
