Kansas lands Number Seven

The Kansas Jayhawks identified Joey Bloomfield early in the recruiting process for the Class of 2013, and as his stock began to climb they never let off the pressure. This week, that hard work paid off, as Charlie Weis and his staff landed a commitment from the Louisville (KY) Ballard offensive tackle.

The Kansas Jayhawks were the first program to offer Louisville (KY) Ballard offensive lineman Joey Bloomfield, targeting him early in the spring.

In the months that followed, Head Coach Charlie Weis and his staff kept up the pressure as Bloomfield's stock soared. His performance at a Memphis Nike camp event in July earned him the attention of a host of additional programs, and he eventually added offers from the likes of San Diego State, Colorado, Houston, Wyoming, Eastern Michigan and more.

This week, that hard work paid off, as the Jayhawks landed a commitment from Bloomfield. In an interview with Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu, he cited the coaching staff as a primary factor in his decision.

"What set Kansas apart was the coaching staff, and that's not a shot at anyone else," Bloomfield told Trieu. "I just meshed with them. They're fantastic. I was very impressed with the program and its future."

Phog.net touched base with Bloomfield on Tuesday night, and will have a more in-depth interview with him Wednesday evening. He is the seventh commitment to the Kansas Class of 2013.
