While Kansas football looks to finish strong over the last four weeks of the season, it's never too early to look ahead to next season, which will be season number three under head coach Charlie Weis. Tuesday, it became easier to look ahead, as the 2014 schedule was released.
The non-conference portion of the schedule once again begins a week after a bye week and features two home games against Southeast Missouri State and Central Missouri, while the Jayhawks will finally complete the home and home with Duke, when they travel to Durham in the second week of the season. Kansas began the series, way back in 2009, when they defeated the Blue Devils 44-16 in a game that seems like it happened 40 years ago.
Conference play begins with a home game against Texas on September 27th, which will mark the earliest that the Longhorns visit Lawrence since the Big 12's inception in 1996. Generally, Texas has traveled to Kansas in either late October or November.
October will feature three games with two road games with West Virginia and Texas Tech, which sandwich a home game with Oklahoma State on October 11th. Kansas will have a late by week on October 25th before beginning the home stretch on November 1st at Baylor. They'll then return for the final two home games of the season against Iowa State and TCU on November 8th and 15th respectively. The Jayhawks will then close the season with consecutive road games at Oklahoma, November 22nd and Kansas State on November 29th, making it the second consecutive season that the Sunflower State rivals clash over Thanksgiving weekend.
