As the 2013-2014 basketball season fast approaches us, the energy in Lawrence, Kansas has gone through the roof. The students are buzzing about this upcoming season and the high expectations for this young squad. We see what a top 3 recruiting class will do to a program. The hype is crazy and it all starts with 6-8 SF from Thornhill, Canada Andrew Wiggins.

It doesn't stop there as Kansas also brought in 6-5 SG Wayne Selden and 7-0 monster Joel Embiid. Along with these top players, Bill Self also secured the commitments from sharpshooter SG Conner Frankamp, SF Brannen Greene, and PG Frank Mason. As this season starts we have to look at the future, as maybe three or four players from this squad will end up leaving for the NBA at the conclusion of this season.

In Part I of looking at the 2014-2015 targets for KU, I will focus on the two players in particular. I will be updating you on the recruitment of C Jahlil Okafor, and PG Tyus Jones.

Jahlil Okafor

Chicago, Illinois

Whitney Young H.S

Center 6'10 265 pounds

Update- The recruitment of Jahlil Okafor has been heavily publicized and followed for more then anyone since he is considered the #1 recruit in the country. He is also part of the biggest package deal in the country with friend and U.S.A teammate Tyus Jones. It is widely considered that Jahlil and Tyus are down to the Duke Blue Devils and the Kansas Jayhawks.

Jahlil Okafor possesses great post presence and great hands. Any time that he is in the lane, he will catch the ball with his strong hands and score most of the time. Jahlil's footwork all around the court is exceptional for his size, and makes it very difficult to guard him on the perimeter. In addition to his outstanding post game he has quietly developed a mid range jumper that has him at a huge advantage over many players of his size. Defense is essential in the college game and is something that Jahlil is constantly improving and has been working on throughout the summer. Jahlil and Tyus have kept the date of there decision close to their vest but both seem like they want to make the decision before the start of each of their senior season's. Duke or Kansas? Two elite college basketball programs that will stop at nothing to corral these two elite recruits to be the face of their basketball team for the 2014-2015 season.

Tyus Jones

Apple Valley, Minnesota

Apple Valley H.S

Point Guard 6-1 171 pounds

Update- Tyus Jones is the prototypical point guard that will flourish in college basketball. A top 5 recruit in the nation, Tyus Jones has taken the country by storm with his exceptional passes and amazing court vision. The ability to make every player around him better is an attribute that is usually overlooked these days. His stats wont blow your mind and its essential to watch his whole game as he slowly takes control of the game. He plays the role of the quarterback and makes reads that only he can see.

He is exceptional off screens and works the pick and roll to perfection. Even when he is in trouble he keeps his dribble alive and anywhere on the court he can turn a bad play into offensive points. He can shoot the lights out from the outside and is deadly when he uses his floater as he drives the lane. He is a pass first player and looks to increase the offensive firepower of the players around him. Tyus Jones is the other part of this package deal with Jahlil Okafor and is now reported to be down to Duke, and Kansas. What will be the deciding factor for these two? Distance, coaching, history, playing style? Maybe all four will contribute? Stay tuned for the latest update, as a decision could be immanent.
