Commitment Impact: Matthew Boateng

Cornerback Matthew Boateng committed to Kansas a week ago. I dive into what he will bring to the Jayhawks and discuss his outlook at immediate playing time.

Matthew Boateng

School: IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida

Size: 6-foot-1, 180 pounds

Recruitment: Committed to Kansas over Indiana and Rutgers

Scouting Report: Boateng had a fantastic senior season for one of the best growing high school football programs in the country in IMG Academy. He was a relative unknown before the season had begun but started to draw interest via his performance and growth.

Without much college interest at all to begin with, schools like Mississippi State, Rutgers, Indiana, and Ole Miss racked up interest in Boateng before he decided to commit to the Jayhawks.

Boateng is a bigger cornerback and plays that way. He likes to be physical at the line of scrimmage against the opposition and use his size to his advantage. He uses his size and strength to disrupt the routes receivers run against him in high school. After a year or two in the strength and conditioning program in Lawrence, it should be his go-to move again.

The corner from the sunshine state also has really good cover skills but could improve his closing speed. When active in run support Boateng has also shown the ability to make the tackle with noise. He can hit and loves doing it.

Outlook: The commitment of Boateng is significant in an additional way. IMG Academy could prove to be a very advantageous place to create a strong relationship with. It's a school that has the ability to produce great football prospects year after year and the Jayhawks are placing themselves in a position to be a college program many know and are familiar with.

Boateng himself has a chance at immediate playing time given the current depth chart for his position at Kansas. In a perfect world a redshirt might be useful but the Jayhawks could use Boateng to make a difference right away. Top Stories
