Kansas football suffered a bit of a blow on Tuesday, when it was announced that junior cornerback Kevin Short has left the team and withdrawn from school to return home to his native Florissant, MO.

Short was expected to be a major contributor to the Jayhawks defense in 204, but head coach Charlie Weis didn’t rule out the possibility of Short returning to Kansas later this school year.

“I am sorry to report that I must withdraw from school for personal reasons,” Short said. “I want to be clear that I am not leaving due to academics and I am not being dismissed from the team I am not sure what the future holds, but I am hoping to return to KU.”

Kansas opens their 2014 season this Saturday night against Southeast Missouri State at Memorial Stadium.
