The fact that it was raining and miserable only seem to serve as symbolism for Kansas on Saturday. Oklahoma rolled to a 44-7 rout of the Jayhawks in a game that could have been worse.

Still, the day was bad enough, as Sooners’ running back Semjae Perine set an NCAA record, rushing for 427 yards on 34 carries, while scoring five touchdowns. He eclipsed the record set just seven days before by Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.

The game was delayed by an hour and half due to lightning, but when it started Kansas may have wished it wouldn’t. The adverse weather conditions reeked havoc on the Kansas offense, as torrential downpours kept them from doing much of anything throughout the game. In fact their only score came on a 63-yard runback of a fumble by Cassius Sendish. By then, Oklahoma (8-3, 5-3) had the game well in hand and Perine was on his way to making history.

Kansas (3-8, 1-7) will conclude its season next Saturday in Manhattan against Kansas State.
