Jayhawk Illustrated magazine debuts

Phog.net has joined TheInsiders.com/Citadel Publishing to acquire Jayhawk Insider magazine, and will re-launch the magazine as Jayhawk Illustrated in September of 2003.

For years, Jayhawk Insider has provided KU fans with the best in Kansas sports coverage. Publishers Joel Cox, Tom Light, and Julie Jamison of Phog.net plan to continue the in-depth coverage of KU sports through the new Jayhawk Illustrated magazine, and bring fans closer to the action than ever before.

Jayhawk Illustrated will offer the highest quality in design, feature stories, personality profiles, in-depth analysis and recruiting information on a monthly basis. The glossy 48 page format will make Jayhawk Illustrated the perfect complement to the daily news and updates produced online by Phog.net

While Light, Jamison and Cox will serve as publishers of the magazine, Jamison will take on most of the content duties as Editor-in-Chief. Light will serve as associate editor and continue to focus on the technological facets of the partnership between Jayhawk Illustrated and Phog.net. Cox will oversee the strategic marketing, advertising, and business partnership aspects of the magazine while serving as associate editor as well.

"We are very excited about the project and the quality of writers we are bringing to this magazine. I feel extremely fortunate to work with such a talented group of journalists," said Jamison. "In some ways the Internet will never replace print. Our goal is to develop and hand-held ongoing history that entertains and inspires."

The one-two punch of quality articles and distinctive images creates a magazine that moves beyond the typical newspaper or online article. In this niche publication Kansas alumni and fans will find something specifically relating to their teams and their passions on every page.

"Our goal with Phog.net, and now with Jayhawk Illustrated, is to enhance the experience of fans around the globe," stated Cox.

"Through the website, we've been able to reach thousands of KU fans online. Now it's our hope to help give fans a front row seat to all the action on the field, and behind-the-scenes through the magazine. Our vision is to invigorate Jayhawk fans to become more involved in KU sports by giving them a unique insight into the world Kansas athletics, including nonrevenue sports."

"The growth of Phog.net since joining TheInsiders Network has been nothing short of phenomenal," adds Light.

"The acquisition of Jayhawk Insider magazine and the addition of a print publication to our current website and multimedia offerings only further reinforces our position as the clear market leader in unofficial sports information for KU fans."

Jim Heckman, CEO of TheInsiders.com/Citadel Publishing, agrees Jayhawk Illustrated represents the future of college team sports publishing.

"The Internet has completely changed the team publishing business forever. It's obvious to me the weekly tabloids are now entirely obsolete. The Internet, on the other hand, offers timely information by the hour but nobody wants to read a 2,000-word article on his or her computer. The combination of monthly magazine and daily online content is the ultimate package for the ultimate Kansas fan and we're thrilled to be partnered with the team at Phog.net to offer this great product."

Jayhawk Illustrated will debut in September 2003 and will be published on a monthly basis ten times per year. Yearly subscriptions will sell for $44.95 and will begin with a special reduced rate of $39.95 for orders placed online.
