2019 SF Christian Brown talks KU

A.C. Flora (SC) wing Christian Brown talks recruiting after competing in the Bojangles Bash.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Though the score looked bleak for A.C. Flora (SC) Saturday night against national powerhouse Huntington Prep (WV), it didn’t slow down the non-stop motor of 2019 SF Christian Brown.

“The game tonight wasn’t about Xs and Os, it was about grit and grime,” Brown said after the 93-62 loss.”We just had to keep fighting, because we never back down.”

It was the third consecutive loss for Flora.

“Three losses? That’s not us. We’re a better team than that,” Brown said. “We have to bounce back from where we’re at right now.”

Brown’s ability to get to the rim and finish through contact was striking, and a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the foul stripe is a good added touch. His recruiting has blown up in recent months, but it’s likely just the start for him.

“Driving, penetrating and kicking,” Brown listed as his strengths on the court. “My shot is getting better.”

The 6-foot-6 wing has a long list of suitors, including  Kansas, Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Western Kentucky.

“It’s great seeing the coaches supporting me at the games and visiting,” Brown said. “It’s great to see your hard work paying off. The process is going great.”

“It’s all about the same,” Brown said when asked who is recruiting him the hardest. “I don’t have anybody hitting me up more than the others.”

The Kansas Jayhawks are one program on Brown’s radar.

“Coach Self. It’s a great team. It’s just the Jayhawks,” he said. “They’ve always been a great team every year. Josh Jackson is who I model my game after. People say I play like Josh Jackson. I just have to get better in my junior and senior year.”

Brown hasn’t been to campus yet, but plans to visit Lawrence during the summer.

Brown gave quick thoughts on a few other schools in the early running:

Wake Forest

Brown: “The whole coaching staff. Wake Forest is a great school. I talk to all of the players.”

Brown: “I’ve been to Florida one time, when my uncle was playing (Mike Davis, South Carolina football). It was raining, and those fans didn’t even care.”

Oklahoma State

Brown: “They’ve been talking to me a lot. They say the school is great. I’ll go to see them.”

Brown: “Me and coach Pearl have a great relationship. It’s a beautiful campus — dorms, facilities, coaching staff. It’s great.”

Brown hasn’t narrowed down exactly what he’s looking for in a college choice.

“I’m just cruising until the time comes,” he said. “I’m focusing on this year.” Top Stories
