COLUMBIA, S.C. — Explosive 2019 wing Juwan Gary continued to show promise at the Chick-fil-A Classic last week, scoring 38 points and grabbing 18 rebounds during the event.
The week had a less-than-stellar start for Gary’s Gray Collegiate Academy (West Columbia, S.C.) as No. 2 overall 2018 prospect Zion Williamson scored a Chick-fil-A Classic record 53 points against them in a 73-53 loss.
“We didn’t really do anything well, but we have to bounce back from this,” Gary said. “Zion is a great player, but we just have to play harder and bounce back.”
Offensively, Gary showed the ability to get to the rim and finish through contact.
“Getting to the rack,” he said about what he did well. “The jump shot wasn’t falling, so I should have gotten to the rack more.”
Gary is hearing from Kansas, Ohio State, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, and UNLV.
His top contact at Kansas is assistant coach Kurtis Townsend
“They’re going to be down to see me soon,” Gary said. “They tell me to keep working hard and I should get an offer soon.”
Gary said his favorite teams growing up were Duke and UNC, and teammate Jalek Felton is committed to the Heels.
“It’s still progressing,” Gary said about his strengths on the hardwood. “I’m a young player, but I have heart. I won’t ever back down.”
