Kansas Football Class of 2017 Signee: LB Cooper Root

Phog.net takes a closer look at the newest Kansas signee.

Cooper Root received and accepted a scholarship offer from Kansas on Dec. 20, 2016. He had interest from Kansas State, Air Force, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and Tulsa. The offer from the Jayhawks was what he was waiting on, however, and he took advantage as soon as he had the opportunity.

Root: “It was always one of my top schools every since I started the recruiting process early in my junior year. When they finally came around and give me the offer, I couldn’t not accept it really.”

Root has great instincts and is a sure tackler. He reads the offense well, and always seems to find his way to the ball. He makes solid penetration while looking to attack, but is also capable of dropping back to give extra coverage when needed. The Jayhawk staff will want him to add some weight to fill out his 6-foot-3 frame, but his instincts and technique will help him make an impact on the field down the road.
