Kansas Football Class of 2017 Signee: CB Robert Topps

Phog.net takes a closer look at the newest Jayhawk signee.

Cornerback Robert Topps was a highly-coveted recruit with well over a dozen offers from schools like Ball State, Nevada, Miami (Ohio) and Connecticut. Though he drew interest from Big 10 schools Minnesota and Wisconsin, Kansas eventually became his only Power 5 offer.

Topps: "I was in Kansas on January 20 for my official. We were taken around the entire school and learned more about the academic piece more in-depth. We saw the updated locker room, and talked to the academic advisors. We got to go to the basketball game against Texas. Seeing that first hand — it was my first Kansas game. It was like nothing I’ve seen before.”

Topps is a tough, physical defensive back with great size and soft hands. He's able to get off blocks to pursue the ball and rarely misses an tackle opportunity. His physical tools give him a legit chance to compete early. At 6-foot-2, he'll immediately be the tallest corner on the Kansas roster.
