Kansas 2017 kicker signee Liam Jones visited Lawrence Saturday for the annual spring game.
“It was really good to see the team and the coaches — coach (David) Beaty and (Special Teams) coach (Joe) DeForest,” he said. “It was good to catch up with them. I got to meet and get to know the other incoming recruits from my class, like Dom (Williams) and Kenyon (Tabor). It was cool to see them, and we’ve already started to make a connection and friendship. I’m excited to get there in June.”
Jones was thrilled to have face time with some of the Jayhawk staff.
“I got to speak with coach Beaty and DeForest,” Jones said. “They said they were excited to see me, and can’t wait for me to get to campus. I told them I’m ready to get working.”
He was also impressed with what he say on the field.
“My man Mike Lee was destroying. The energy of the entire team the entire game was just awesome,” Jones said. “It gives me chills just thinking about it. I can’t wait to be out there with them.”
Jones is already in the process of building bonds with other KU special teams players.
“Getting to know Cole Moos and the other guys on the team — they’re going to be very influential for me. I already look up to them, and they look really solid,” he said. “I’ve seen some of them at camps, and have seen them perform. Getting to know them is the next level, and I’m excited to build a bond with them. I’m really excited.”
Jones, a three-star kicker from Choctaw, Oklahoma, plans to enroll and be on campus in early June.
“I just want to be able to compete and get better every day. It’s my job to make the team better and be there for my teammates,” he said. “Stick to workout plan and stay consistent kicking wise. Just working to stay healthy and working on my flexibility.”
Jones sees Kansas as a program on the upswing, and the energy is evident across both the 2017 and 2018 recruiting classes.
“All the guys I’ve talked to are so friendly and excited. They know what’s happening at Kansas,” he said. “Looking at the 2018 class is just ridiculous. I’ve already got to meet a couple of those guys. I’m super excited for the future.”
