One round complete at tournament

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -- The University of Kansas men's golf team is currently in 12th place, in an 18-team field, after one round of The Ridges Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn.

Kansas opened the two-day tournament with a first round total of 301 on the 7,001 yard, par-72 Ridges Golf and Country Club, but did not finish the second round when players were called off the course due to darkness.

Florida holds the overall lead after playing the first two rounds to a total of 570 (-6). Four other teams, including TCU, Clemson, USC and Wake Forest, occupy the top three team positions but have not finished the second round.

"We didn't play particularly well today," head coach Ross Randall said. "I felt we played better in the afternoon round as evidenced by Andrew Price being under par with two holes to play."

Junior Andrew Price shot a first round score of one-over par 73 to share a tie for tenth place but has not finished his second round. Junior Kevin Ward shot an opening round of two-over par 74 and currently is tied for 27th place. The Leawood, Kan., native will begin Sunday on the 16th hole of his second round. Sophomore Ryan Rainer shot scores of 75 and 74, putting his two-round total at 149, good for a share of 44th place. Freshman Tyler Docking (T82nd) finished the first day of the event with a total of 157, shooting rounds of 79 and 78, respectively. Senior Tyler Hall shot a first-round score of 87 and will begin Sunday, in 95th place, on the 13th hole.

"Play was slow in the afternoon not allowing us to finish the second round," Randall added.

Kansas will finish second round action of The Ridges, Sunday, Sept. 14, which will be followed by the event's third round later in the afternoon. Tee-times for the second round's conclusion are set for 8:00 a.m.
