Cross Country

The Kansas men's and women's cross country teams finished first and second, respectively, Saturday, at the Kansas State Wildcat Invitational held in Topeka, Kan... Earning 27 points in the four-mile race, the KU men beat out Kansas State, Fort Hays State and UMKC... With 22 points, the Kansas State women finished first in the 4k-race, over Kansas (second place, 47 points), Wichita State, Fort Hays State and UMKC... The Jayhawks will return to competition Saturday, Oct. 4, at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.

Football

The Kansas football team improved its season record to 2-1 after defeating Wyoming this past weekend in Laramie, Wyo... The Jayhawks bolted out of the gate to take a 35-14 halftime lead and then held off a furious Wyoming comeback in the second half to win the game 42-35... Freshman wide receiver Charles Gordon hauled in a pair of touchdown passes and Austine Nwabuisi scored twice to lead the KU offense... Senior quarterback Bill Whittemore was fantastic the entire game, completing 12-of-15 passes for 269 yards and four touchdowns... On the other side of the ball, junior defensvie end David McMillan returned a fumble 53 yards for his second defensive touchdown of the season and sophomore Gabriel Toomey led all Kansas players with 12 tackles... This week, the Jayhawks host Jacksonville State at 6 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

Men's Golf

The Kansas men's golf team finished the Ridges Intercollegiate with a total of 892 (+28) to place 12th in an 18-team field, at the par-72 Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesborough, Tenn. on Sept. 13-14... Junior Andrew Price shot a 214 (-2) and finished tied for sixth in The Ridges, both are career-bests... Kansas will be back in action, Sept. 22-23, when it hosts the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.

Soccer

The University of Kansas soccer team moved its record to 6-1-0 by winning the KUStore.com Crimson and Blue Invitational over the weekend... Kansas, which placed four players on the all-tournament team, downed Florida State, a team ranked No. 12 in the preseason, by a score of 3-1, and picked up the championship by dropping Central Florida, 1-0... Sophomore Caroline Smith, the tournament's Offensive MVP, led KU in the first game of the tournament by scoring all three of KU's goals which tied a career high for goals in a match... Junior Meghan Miller, the all-tournament team goalkeeper, tied the KU career shutout mark (11) by blanking Central Florida on Sunday... The Jayhawks will take on San Diego, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. and the Loyola Marymount Lions, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m., both in California.

Tennis

The Kansas tennis team began its fall season at the Misouri 4-Way this past weekend, Sept. 12-14... Kansas was led by the strong singles play of senior Emily Haylock and freshman Brittany Brown... Haylock advanced to the semifinals of the main draw and Brown advanced to the championship of the backdraw... The doubles team of Haylock and fellow senior Kristen Steinbock made it to the semifinals of the doubles draw... The Jayhawks will be back in action at the Tulsa Invitational Sept. 26-28 in Tulsa, Okla.

Volleyball

Kansas (7-3) went 2-2 at home last week, sweeping Oral Roberts in its home opener and hosting Arkansas, Creighton and North Carolina in the 2003 Hampton Inn/Jayhawk Classic ... KU lost a tough match to Arkansas 3-2 but came back to defeat Creighton 3-0 Saturday morning ... Lost a five-game heartbreaker to North Carolina Saturday night ... Janaina Correa and Ashley Michaels were named to the all-tournament team ... Kansas opens league play Wednesday against No. 12 Kansas State in Manhattan and will host Colorado Saturday at Horejsi.

Women's Golf

The women's golf team opened its season last week at the Ptarmingan/Ram Fall Classic in Windsor, Colo... The team finished seventh in a 16-team tournament, shooting a total round score of 905... Sophomore Chelsey Pryor shot a career-best 224 in the three-round event... The team will be back in action Sept. 20-21 at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
