Football Fresh off its 41-6 victory over Jacksonville State, the University of Kansas (3-1) football team will entertain Missouri (4-0) in the 112th renewal of the Border War when the Tigers visit Lawrence for an 11:40 a.m. kickoff this Saturday in Memorial Stadium in the Big 12 opener for both teams... Kansas has scored 40 or more points in each of its last three games and is coming off an impressive effort against JSU which saw the team post 641 yards of total offense... Senior quarterback Bill Whittemore, who threw a pair of TD strikes against the Gamecocks, passed for a career-best 319 yards in the contest and also added a pair of rushing touchdowns... The Jayhawk defense appears to have found its groove as well, after recording a season-high seven sacks against Jacksonville State... KU allowed just six points in its last contest -- the fewest points given up by Kansas since a 42-0 shutout of Southern Illinois on Sept. 23, 2000.

Men's Golf The Kansas Men's Golf Team will host the 2003 Kansas Invitational at its home course, Alvamar Golf Club, in Lawrence, Kan., Sept. 22-23... Fifteen teams will compete along with several individuals in the two-day, three-round event... The Jayhawks finished second in last year's Kansas Invitational... Kansas looks to regroup after struggling in the season opener, The Ridges Intercollegiate, Sept. 13-14, in Jonesborough, Tenn., where it finished 12th out of 18 teams.

Soccer The University of Kansas soccer team moved its record to 8-1-0 on the season after topping San Diego (1-0) and Loyola Marymount (4-1) during its trip to the west coast... Junior goalkeeper Meghan Miller took sole possession of the top spot on KU's career shutout list... The Seattle, Wash., native blanked San Diego for the 12th shutout of her career and her fourth this season... Kansas opens Big 12 Conference play this week when it hosts Baylor at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at SuperTarget Field... The Jayhawks then travel to Texas Tech for their second game of the weekend, scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Swimming The Kansas women's swimming and diving team begins its 2003-04 season Friday night at the Robinson Natatorium against Southern Illinois at 6 p.m.... The two teams then face off at Clinton Lake for a lake race at 8 a.m., Saturday morning... The Jayhawks hope to build off last season's strong fourth place finish at the Big 12 Championships... The team returns 11 letterwinners, including four seniors led by co-captains Kristen Johnson and Whitney Sondall... The Hawks defeated Southern Illinois in the first meet last season.

Tennis The University of Kansas tennis team did not compete last week as it prepared for the 2003 Polo Tennis National Collegiate Preview held in Tulsa, Okla., to be held Friday-Sunday, Sept 26-28... The team looks to build on a successful opening tournament at the Missouri 4-Way held the weekend of Sept. 12-14, where freshman Brittany Brown advanced to the championship of the backdraw and senior Emily Haylock advanced to the semifinals of the main draw.

Volleyball Kansas (8-4, 1-1 Big 12) went 1-1 last week, falling to No. 10 Kansas State in three games in Manhattan on Wednesday and sweeping Colorado at home on Saturday... Freshman Janaina Correa paced Kansas with 12 digs, 11 kills and four aces in a 3-0 win over Colorado... Senior Sarah Rome notched her 1,000th career kill Wednesday and became the sixth player in school history to accomplish such a feat... The Jayhawks will host UMKC Monday night to close their 2003 non-conference schedule and will continue Big 12 play against Baylor Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.

Women's Golf The women's golf team placed fourth out of a 16-team field last weekend (Sept. 20-21) at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich... The Jayhawks shot a total score of 937... Sophomore Tiffany Woods led the Jayhawks with a three-round score of 232... Woods scored a career-best 70, two under par, in the second round of the tournament... The team will be back in action Oct. 6-7 at the Legends of Indiana, in Franklin Ind.
