Cross Country teams earn top 10 ranking

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Kansas men's and women's cross country teams have been recognized by the United States Cross Country Association (USCCCA) and Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Association (WICCCA) in the latest midwest regional polls.

The Jayhawk men are currently ranked second and the women are ranked tenth. The Jayhawk men are also being recognized in the latest MONDO National Poll as they are currently ranked 32nd.

The Jayhawk men and women are coming off third and ninth place finishes, respectively, at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree, held at the Oklahoma State University Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. The Jayhawk men were led by freshman Benson Chesang (Ravine, Kenya) who placed second on the 8k course with a time of 24:09. Chris Jones (Iowa City, Iowa) also placed in the top 10, finishing seventh, with a time of 24:29. The Jayhawk women were paced by junior Megan Manthe (Anoka, Minn.) who placed 24th on the 6k course with a time of 22:06.

The Jayhawks have one more meet prior to the Big 12 Conference Championships. KU's men's and women's squads will head to Cedar Falls, Iowa., for Saturday's (Oct. 18) NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational. The Big 12 Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Texas, will be held on Oct. 31. Top Stories
