Texas Bound at #1

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The University of Kansas men's basketball team jumped to No. 1 in this week's Associated Press poll which was released on Monday.

"I don't believe we're deserving of it, but I don't know if anyone is right now," said KU coach Bill Self. "There are probably 10 to 12 teams out there who could be No. 1 the way things played out last week. Although it's very early, we'll enjoy the time we have it, and we certainly hope to maintain it."

This marks the first time the Jayhawks have been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll since Week 16 of the 2001-02 season. In addition, Kansas, which was ranked No. 6 in last week's poll, made the second-biggest jump to No. 1 in AP history. KU has now been ranked No. 1 for 40 weeks in school history, while this marks the first time coach Bill Self has guided a No. 1 ranked team.

The Jayhawks debut at No. 1 tonight against the TCU Horned Frogs at 10 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Ft. Worth, Texas.
