Recruiting Update: Tyrell Biggs

The talented big man from New Jersey names his schools, and is racking up big numbers.

The preview of the 2005 recruiting class for Kansas continues.  The Jayhawks are in the early running for a talented 6'8" power forward named Tyrell Biggs who hails from Ramsey, New Jersey.
As expected, Biggs is having an eye opening junior season at Don Bosco High School where he's averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per night.  Thanks in large part to Biggs play, his high school squad is off to a stellar start.  "My season is going very well, and we're doing good.  We're 13-1 with our only loss coming against a team in the championship game of a Christmas tournament in South Carolina."
Biggs was clear when asked about the strongest part of his game.  "I'm at my best when I'm six feet from the basket or closer.  I have pretty strong post moves which allow me to put the ball in the bucket."  Biggs has an obvious big time Division I frame, the New Jersey product is 6'8" and 255 pounds.
His current list of schools is lengthy and impressive.  The power forward is drawing interest from Kansas, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgetown, and Villanova.
While Biggs is in no hurry to declare a favorite at this time, he did have some positive things to say about KU.  "They have a strong program, and I like the fact they've been to back to back Final Fours."
The high school junior mentioned the Jayhawks track record with developing big men like Paul Pierce, Drew Gooden, Nick Collison, and current standout Wayne Simien.  "I like what I've seen from their forwards, and those guys are talented players."
Maryland is another team around the top of Biggs current list.  "Steve Francis played ball there, and I like their style of play."  Biggs was also complimentary of Terrapins head coach Gary Williams.
Whats on the short term platter for this New Jersey prep star?  "I'm working on my defense right now, it's pretty good but I want to get better."  Biggs added ball handling and getting a little quicker on the floor as other priorities. Top Stories
