Three 'Hawks named to All-Tournament Team

SAN ANTONIO - University of Kansas softball players Destiny Frankenstein, Kara Pierce and Mel Wallach were named to the 2004 Fastpitch Express College Classic All-Tournament Team, officials announced Tuesday. The three Jayhawks helped lead KU (7-4) to a 5-0 finish and tournament championship at the SAISD Spring Sports Complex last weekend.

Senior pitcher Kara Pierce, a native of Mesa, Ariz., was 2-0 with an ERA of 1.40 and 16 strikeouts. Pierce (3-2) led Kansas to wins over North Texas and UT-San Antonio and held opponents to a .185 batting average. Pierce leads KU with a 1.91 ERA and .180 opponent batting average this season.

Senior outfielder Mel Wallach notched a team-leading seven hits. Wallach, a native of Pacific, Mo., started all five games in center field and posted a .438 batting average. She totaled a tournament-best five runs, three doubles and one triple for 12 bases and a .750 slugging percentage.

Sophomore shortstop Destiny Frankenstein, a Broken Arrow, Okla. native, hit .353 with a homer and four RBI and was a perfect 5-of-5 on stolen bases. Top Stories
