LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Head football coach Mark Mangino announced today that the University of Kansas football team will hold its annual Spring Scrimmage at 3 p.m. on April 18 in Memorial Stadium. Prior to the scrimmage, many former KU football players will return to Lawrence to participate in an Alumni Game which kicks off at 1 p.m.
Admission to the Alumni Game and the scrimmage will cost $2.00. KU students can enter the stadium free of charge with a valid ID. The University of Kansas
Athletics Department and the football team will donate all proceeds from the event to the KU marching band to help defray the costs of much-needed equipment and accessories.
The marching band and the Kansas spirit squad will be on hand for the event.
"I was thrilled with the phone call that I received from Coach Mangino when he told us what he wanted to do," said KU's Director of Marching Bands, Jim Hudson. "Just to know that he supports us, makes our staff and students feel like we're part of the team."
The Jayhawks begin Spring Drills on March 14. A pair of practices (March 15 and April 5), and the scrimmage will be open to the public. Practice times will be announced at a later date.
