Clark anchors winning relay

The strong winds could not prevent the Kansas women's distance medley relay team from capturing the win on Friday.

Megan Manthe, Angela Pichardo, Octavia Garrett and Kim Clark grabbed a first place finish with a time of 12:04.97.

"I felt pretty confident coming into the race and it was hard to push myself when I was running all alone," said Manthe.

"The conditions on the track were windy and horrendous but despite the conditions we were able to pull off the win," added Manthe.

Clark also acknowledged the wind was a consideration for the women.

"You have to use a different strategy. The wind was blowing pretty hard especially on the backstretch," said Clark.

Clark had a first place finish yesterday in the 800-meter as well.

"It feels nice for me to have two wins in two events here at the Relays. I'll see if I can win one more in the 1600 Meter Relay."

The senior is winding down a successful career at KU.

"Kim Clark has been such a leader for us. She is a team captain and has a 4.0 GPA," said coach Stanley Redwine at the end of the indoor season.

"Kim really exemplifies the term student athlete. I just can't say enough good things about her."
