Giles Watch

C.J. Giles met with the new Miami coach, as requested. However, the recruit is determined and is still asking for a release. If granted, Kansas is among the schools it is expected Giles would consider.

"We had a very productive meeting, and Coach Haith seems like a very, very nice guy, but C.J. and his dad still asked for the release," said Mike Bethea, Giles' coach at Rainier Beach (Wash.) High.

"Miami's a great city and UM is a great school, but it's the coaches who form a bond with the kids and C.J. doesn't want to go 3,000 miles to play for someone he's not familiar with. Coach Haith said he understood, and we left on good terms.

Giles had asked to be released from his letter of intent three days after Clark was fired last month. At that time, Dee said he wouldn't consider releasing Giles until a new coach was hired and had a chance to meet with Giles. Dee has not allowed football players who signed a letter of intent, then changed their minds, to go elsewhere.
