KU Track Wraps Up Weekend

NORMAN, Okla. - Cold and windy conditions could not stop 13 Jayhawk athletes from scoring in 10 events on the final day of the Big 12 Championships on May 1 at John Jacobs Field in Norman, Okla. The men finished in 12th place with six points, while the women finished in 10th place with 38 points. Texas took home the women's team title with 151 points and Nebraska won the men's title with a total of 172 points.

Junior Brooklyn Hann started off the day by recording a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet 8 inches. Hann also scored for the 'Hawks with an eighth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78.

Senior Laura Lavoie received All-Big 12 honors after turning in a time of 4:27.82 to finish second in the 1500-meter finals. Freshman Octavia Garret finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.27 after turning in a season-best performance of 55.20 in the prelims. Junior Kim Clark took home a seventh place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.31.

Senior T.J. Hackler finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 6-08.75, while junior Chris Jones rounded out the scoring for Kansas in the 5000-meter run with an eighth place finish in a season-best time of 14:40.98.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Tiffany Cherry, Duchess Williams, Charisse Bacchus and Garrett finished fifth with a season-best regional qualifying time of 45.56. Williams, Hann, Garrett and Clark also scored for the Jayhawks with a fourth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay in a season-best time of 3:42.42.

The 4x400 meter men's relay team of Ryan Mathisen, Aaron Thompson, Mark Gdowski and Jeremy Mims took home a seventh place finish with a season-best time of 3:13.25.

KU athletes will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships when they return to action Saturday, May 15 to compete in the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
