Three Jayhawks Advance To NCAA's

COLLEGE STATION,Texas -- Senior Laura Lavoie and junior Brooklyn Hann will join sophomore Benson Chesang in representing the University of Kansas at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.

Lavoie finished fourth in the 1500-meter run at the Midwest Regional Championships with a time of 4:29.44, while Hann posted a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 42-08.00.

Chesang advanced to the Outdoor Championships on Friday after finishing second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:17.04.

Freshman Gavin Ball finished 24th in the discus with a throw of 170-11. Junior Brandon Hodges recorded a seventh place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.07, while sophomore Cameron Schwehr finished with a time of 3:52.53 in the 1500-meter run to finish sixth.

Junior Megan Manthe finished 11th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:45.42. Junior Sondra Rauterkus jumped 5-08.50 in the high jump to finish 10th, while junior Megan Foster threw the javelin a distance of 148-06 to finish eighth overall. Junior Kim Clark recorded a ninth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.50.

"I think that Brooklyn (Hann) and Laura (Lavoie) did an excellent job today," said head coach Stanley Redwine. "We had a lot of people turn in personal-best performances and it shows that we are always improving."

The final declaration lists for the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be set next week. Athletes will still have a chance to make the Championships based on their Midwest Regional marks or times. Top Stories
