Catching up with Costner

Kansas is searching for at least one big man to compliment the two perimeter players who are already expected to sign from the 2005 class. Brandon Costner and Kevin Rogers are expected to visit Lawrence in late September, and both have Kansas high on their list.

KU could accept both Costner and Rodgers if they want to play for Coach Bill Self because the program has two scholarships remaining.

Costner whose a 6'8" power forward from West Orange, NJ has had a busy couple of months on the AAU circuit along with numerous camps. In fact, he just returned home from Five Star which was his last stop of the Summer. Costner is heading down to Orlando for a vacation this week before starting up with school after Labor Day.

Phog.net caught up with Costner and asked the big man from Jersey about KU, and what he expected to check out during his official visit.

"I don't really expect to see anything," said Costner. "I'm just going to take a visit to see what the school is like. Basically, I want to get the Kansas experience. Right now, I don't know much about it."

Fair enough, but Costner has been in close contact with Bill Self in the past. He explains his current impressions towards KU's head man.

"We get along well. I haven't talked to him in about a week, but I like Coach Self a lot. He seems like a good guy."

Costner has had a chance to check out the KU offense some on the TV, and he feels he would feel comfortable in Self's system.

"I think I would. They run a lot of ball screens and hi-lows which makes me think I would fit in pretty well," said Costner.

Kansas, NC State, UCLA, and Seton Hall remain in the mix for Costner. He visited Los Angeles last Spring and liked what he saw with the Bruins program. Up next is an official trip to NC State on September 17th, he'll follow up that visit with the September 25th tour of Lawrence. After that, Costner plans on making up his mind fairly soon.

"I hope to make a decision after taking all of my visits."
