Jayhawks Climb

Kansas soccer and volleyball have started strong, both undefeated so far and both earning national rankings.

Riding the strength of a school record 6-0 start, the Kansas Jayhawk soccer team climbed to new heights this week in the national women's soccer rankings. KU is ranked in the top 10 in all four major collegiate women's soccer polls.

Kansas climbed 13 spots from No. 21 to No. 8 in NSCAA/Adidas poll. In the SoccerBuzz poll, KU rose from No. 9 three spots to No. 6. In addition to the NSCAA/Adidas and SoccerBuzz poll, the Jayhawks appear at No. 7 in the Soccer America Top 25, up from No. 13 a week ago, and No. 10 in the Soccer Times Top 25, up from No. 18 last week.

For the first time in school history, the Kansas volleyball team has made its way into the national rankings. The Jayhawks were ranked 24th in the USA TODAY/CSTV Coaches' Poll, as released by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association.

KU will look to remain unbeaten today as it faces UMKC. Kansas faces a tougher challange as it will begin Big 12 Conference play Friday at No. 12 Texas A&M.

The Jayhawks are coming off a 3-0 weekend in the Holiday Inn/Jayhawk Classic that included a 3-1 win over No. 25 Wisconsin. KU claimed its own tournament crown while Josi Lima was named MVP and Andi Rozum and Ashley Michaels earned all-classic team honors.
