"It's going fairly well. We're two and one right now," said Welty.
The Railroaders hook up with Arkansas City this weekend, and Welty plans on seeing action on both sides of the ball for the first time this Fall.
"I missed the first game of the season with a back injury, and the coaches have decided to make sure I'm okay before playing on defense."
Welty indicated the back injury was no big deal. However, he missed a week and a half of practice, in addition to the first game of the season.
"It's fully recovered now, it was a fairly minor injury once I visited a chiropractor."
The Division I caliber offensive lineman has enjoyed the Jayhawks start to the 2004 campaign.
"I knew it was going to be a good season for them. Coach Mangino is turning the program around, and it’s falling into line just like I thought it would."
In fact, Welty will get a chance to check out the program first hand this weekend when he heads to Lawrence on an unofficial visit for the Texas Tech game.
"I am looking forward to checking out the facilities, and seeing Lawrence on a game day. Also, I want to get a chance to meet all of the coaches to get a better feel for the staff."
Welty verbally committed to Kansas over the Summer and he plans on honoring that commitment. The Newton product believes KU is the place for him.
"Right now, I am probably 85-95 percent sure Kansas is where I am going. It would take another offer from a different school that impresses me more to think about not signing with KU. And, I'm really impressed with Kansas."
