Volleyball drops fifth straight

BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Kansas volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match Saturday night as it fell to Colorado 3-0 at the Coors Events Center. The Buffaloes (10-5, 5-3 Big 12 Conference) commanded the match 30-23, 30-22 and 30-21 as the Jayhawks fell to 10-6 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Freshman Emily Brown led KU with nine kills and added six digs and three block assists. Senior Ashley Michaels added seven kills and a match-high six block assists in the loss. The Brazilian trio of Josi Lima, Jana Correa and Paula Caten, added a combined 16 kills in the losing effort.

Libero Jill Dorsey led KU with nine digs while Lima added seven to the defensive effort. Six other Jayhawks added at least two digs. Junior Andi Rozum dished out 27 assists to go with three kills and four digs.

Three Colorado players posted double-digit kills including Maragda Santillana (13) and Austin Zimmerman (13).

CU hit .293 as a team (54k-20e-116att) while holding Kansas to .114 (35k-22e-114att), including just .041 over the final two games (21k-18e-73att). The Buffaloes out-blocked Kansas 14-8 as CU recorded double-digits in team blocks for the eighth time this season and the fourth time in the last five matches.

"Colorado played like a great team tonight," KU head coach Ray Bechard said. "However, on our end, the offense had no rhythm and our passing was subpar -- which led to other problems. This is not a good position for us to be in but we have to keep fighting."

Kansas will continue its Big 12 road trip Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it faces Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
