"I'm very interested in Kansas, I like the fact it's in the Midwest and the team is rising. A lot of teams claim they're on the rise, but with Kansas they almost beat Nebraska [a couple of weeks ago]. They appear to really be doing things right."
Nate Hartung currently has offers from KU, Syracuse, West Virginia, Temple, and Akron. Notre Dame and Tennessee are also showing some interest, but neither upper echelon program has placed a scholarship offer at the offensive lineman's feet. The East Coast standout is Mormon and will have to go on a mission as part of his faith before or right after his freshman year in college.
Kansas Tight Ends Coach Brandon Blaney has headed up the recruitment of Hartung.
"[Coach Blaney] seems like a great guy. Coach came out to Pennsylvania during the Spring, he's done a good job of calling regularly."
Hartung plans on playing an interior spot on the offensive line at the next level.
"From an athleticism standpoint I need to play an interior spot. I like offense better than defense, but it depends on the system."
Jayhawk head coach Mark Mangino grew up in New Castle, PA, which is 45 minutes away from Hartung's hometown of Butler. The two Pennsylvanians have talked on the phone once, but Hartung indicated he didn't see the East Coast connection coming into play in his recruitment in either a positive or a negative fashion.
