Jayhawks Still in the Mix for Potter

Some big time programs are in the mix for the DE/TE from Omaha - and one program leads.

Omaha (NE) DE/TE Zach Potter (6-7, 230, 4.8) still favors Nebraska over Kansas, Kansas St and Notre Dame. All have offered.

"I've been out to visit Nebraska more than any other school," says Potter, from Creighton Prep. "I think I could get some good playing time if I went there. They are close to home and I really don’t want to go that far away. They will be having some new facilities coming in which are due by next year I think. That is a real attraction for a recruit. I think I could go in there and contribute right away. The coaching staff there is great also. They, along with Kansas St, are recruiting me as both a DE and a TE.

"Kansas coach (Mark) Mangino has the program on the rise. Their record might not show it but look at the scores they've had. They have been hanging in there a lot more. I like the weight room there, and they have a great academic program their too. Coach Mangino is getting more guys there that he wants. Both them and Notre Dame want me to play TE.

"Kansas State has a stable coach in (Bill) Snyder…he knows what 's going on at the university. They have some new renovations scheduled for next fall and that is attractive. They will be losing their primary TE and they don't have too much depth at the position. I could get some early playing time their. The rest of the coaching staff is great.

"Notre Dame's Tyrone Willingham has been under some scrutiny for a while, but he's getting good players and starting to put in his own system. They have a storied history and great academics. They are pretty much Notre Dame. I think they have a really nice campus also."

Potter has one more offer from Iowa St.

He will officially visit Nebraska, Kansas St and Notre Dame--no dates.

Creighton Prep is 7-1.
