The Faces of Kansas Basketball

It is getting closer. Late Night has come and gone and the natives are restless. Exhibition games have started. Get out the schedule and start planning around game times. A new season of Kansas basketball is about to officially begin. This year there may be an even greater sense of urgency.

In the November issue of Jayhawk Illustrated, you will see some familiar faces. Four seniors, four men with one last shot at a national title. Two Final Fours and a Sweet Sixteen are not enough for Wayne, Aaron, Keith, or Michael. Can the Jayhawks reach St. Louis and bring home the championship? No one knows. But as Michael Lee told us, "I think about a national championship every day. Every single day."

Then there are the freshman faces. The new kids that will try and help those seniors close out their careers with the ultimate finale. The players we will follow for the next four years and beyond.

Bonnie Henricksen is the new face of Kansas women's basketball. It will be a rebuilding season, a season of small successes, a season that takes courage and commitment. The Jayhawks can't wait to get started.

Squint closely at our November cover and you will see all of these faces and more. Fan faces, faces now in the NBA, and faces from the past. Faces filled with exhilaration and frustration. Faces that show anger, disappointment, or joy. The face of Kansas basketball is complex and rich in tradition. It is also youthful and exuberant. It can not be illustrated in a single cover. But we did our best.
