Soto Makes Tentative Decision

Jonathan Soto's recruitment is far from over, but the Kansas Jayhawks are currently sitting in a good position.<br>

Jonathan Soto Profile

The 6-3, 265 DT from La Puente, CA visited Kansas in mid-December and still has two more visits to take.  Those visits will wrap up on the weekend on January 22nd, and if nothing changes between now and then, Soto could very well be a Jayhawk.

“I talked to Coach (Dave) Doeren last week.  I basically told him that I’m ready.  I guess I’d call it a semi-commitment.  I’m going to go on these trips to make sure that I made the right decision.”

Those trips will be to Fresno State on January 7th and Utah on the 21st.  That leaves an open week in between that had initially been set aside for Wyoming.  Soto says that trip is no longer on his calendar.

“I’m still planning on going on my trips to Fresno State and Utah.  I don’t think I’ll be going to Wyoming, because they want to offer me offensively and I want to play defense.  If nothing happens I’ll probably end up going to Kansas.”

According to Soto, the Kansas staff wants him to play defense at the next level and says KU was excited to hear of his “semi-commitment”.

“They were (excited).  They had really wanted me.  After I got back from Kansas, they’d told me to just talk to my parents and talk about what happened and then they called back I basically said that I was going to Kansas.”

Should Soto ultimately come to Kansas he would be joined by his Bishop Amat High School teammate Jose Rodriguez who has already committed to KU.  Check back soon for more on how Soto’s final two visits unfold. Top Stories
