Dwight Lewis is back from Lawrence and his AAU Al Jones thinks this past weekend's trip to the KU campus was a success. The coach of Lewis' Westside All-Stars team had planned on making the visit with the 6-6 Metairie, LA guard prospect, but a late change in plans forced Jones to miss the trip.
"Unfortunately, I was unable to make it as a business obligation popped up last minute," admitted Jones. "I was really looking forward to seeing Lawrence and had purchased my plane tickets and everything, but we did stay in touch. We talked about three to four times a day."
So, what did Lewis tell his coach about the visit?
"The visit was good. He feels very strongly that he's definitely going to play at this level and very strongly that he can compete for major minutes at this level."
But what about Kansas?
"He likes Kansas. It's different from where he grew up at but it's a good kind of different. I think he likes Kansas a lot."
Jones said that as of Monday morning a decision had not yet been made but one could be coming very soon.
"No, he hasn't made one yet," said Jones. "But we're all going to sit down and talk about it tonight."
When asked if he felt that Lewis might be on the verge of making a commitment to Kansas Jones declined comment. He did offer the following though:
"I'll just say this: Everything went really, really well. We're going to talk about it tonight."
Coach Jones will talk further today on KLWN's Rock Chalk Sports Talk from 4-6 PM. The show is aired locally in Lawrence on 1320 AM and can also be heard online only on Phog.net.
