Lewis Excited About Kansas

Late Wednesday afternoon Dwight Lewis made a call to Kansas Head Coach Bill Self and took care of some business. The 6-5 WG from Metairie (LA) Archbishop Rummel called Self and gave a verbal commitment to play basketball for the University of Kansas.

“I’m really excited and I feel like I can do great things at Kansas,” Dwight Lewis told Phog.net. “I had it in my mind for a while that I was probably going to Kansas but I just needed to see the campus and be sure.”

It didn’t take long for Lewis to be sure that Kansas was where he wanted to be during his official visit to Lawrence last weekend. Hosted by Jeremy Case and J.R. Giddens, the easygoing wing fell in love with the campus and enjoyed the family atmosphere that surrounds Kansas Basketball enough to commit.

“It’s a great school, I looked around campus and hung out with the coaches and the players,” said Lewis. “It’s different than Louisiana and I’m going to get to expand my horizons a little bit. Everything was great and it was like a big family out there and I really liked that.”

Next on the agenda for Lewis is getting back in the gym. After fighting off mono for the last few months, he couldn’t wait any longer and started to work out again on Monday. According to Lewis he’s lost in the area of 20 pounds and he wants to get himself back up to full strength before the NBPA top 100 camp in Richmond, VA during June.

“It’s been too long and it was starting to get to me,” said Lewis. “I got back into the gym on Monday and I’m just starting to ease into things.”

More than anything, Lewis is glad to have gotten his decision out of the way. He knew early on that Kansas was the place for him but just needed his visit to be sure after rushing his initial commitment. Now that he’s a Jayhawk and he’s back in the gym, what Lewis is looking forward to most is returning to the life of a normal teenager.

“I’m glad that it is over with, now I can get back to being a regular kid,” said Lewis. “I’m also glad that I committed to a great school like Kansas and that I didn’t just settle.”
