Oread Media is pleased to announce the hiring of Kristi Chartrand as a Senior Writer for Phog.net and Jayhawk Illustrated magazine. Chartrand will be covering the recruiting beat alongside Recruiting Expert Eric Bossi, and writers Brian Hanni and Jud Easterday. Chartrand will also write feature stories and provide game and strategy analysis during the basketball season.
Chartrand has a history of covering the Jayhawks for the website collegehoops.net, and worked for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut as an Associate Producer of College Hoops Tonight for six years. During her tenure at ESPN, Chartrand worked with Jay Bilas, Andy Katz, Dick Vitale and Digger Phelps to formulate analysis and features on college basketball. Currently, Chartrand works as an Associate Producer for Golf Central on the Golf Channel.
"Kristi is a great fit for Phog.net," said publisher, Joel Cox. "We've been looking for awhile to grow our writing staff, and when Kristi mentioned she was interested, we jumped at the chance to bring her on board. We've always prided ourselves on being more than just a website that calls recruits. I think we have a responsibility to evaluate talent, and then provide analysis on what a particular prospect might bring to the program. Kristi has that ability. Her experience at ESPN certainly gives her they type of experience and pedigree we were looking for."
Phog.net publisher Tom Light adds "Kristi is perfect for Phog. She knows the game thoroughly, and we know that she will give KU fans accurate and responsible coverage, be it recruiting information or game analysis. She's got a great reputation among Div 1 coaches as well, having worked with Coach Self, Coach Calhoun, and others while at ESPN. At the end of the day, Kristi just helps grow Phog.net's credibility as one of the top college websites in the country."
Kristi was a two-time First Team All-State selection in basketball and played for Immaculate High School where she also achieved All-State honors in soccer. Her senior year Immaculate’s basketball team finished the regular season 20-0 and ranked #1 in the state. Kristi also played AAU basketball for all 4 years of high school and Kristi was named one of USA Today’s Connecticut players to watch.
Kristi then attended Division II East Stroudsburg University (located in the Poconos Pennsylvania) on a partial basketball scholarship. Her team went 25-5 in her last season and finished ranked 15th in the country after winning PSAC championship. Kristi also graduated (1995) with a B.S. degree in Media, Communication and Technology
Chartrand will begin covering the recruiting beat immediately, and will attend tournaments where numerous Jayhawk recruits will be participating this summer. Chartrand resides in Orlando, Florida with her husband.
