Webster No Longer Listing KU

Minnesota big man Bryce Webster indicates that he will look to play his college basketball at a venue other than Allen Fieldhouse. More inside.

Bryce Webster is a confident, articulate young man who knows what he wants from his recruitment. The 6-10 center appears to be headed for the Big East or the Big Ten. Webster lists his 4 finalists as Minnesota, Notre Dame, Marquette, and Boston College but has no frontrunner from the quartet of schools.

Webster visited the Minnesota campus on Thursday and stated the visit “went well.” In the fall Webster also plans to take official visits to a duo of Big East schools.

“I still want to take official visits to Boston College and Notre Dame”, Webster stated. “I just want to see what the campus is like because I think that’s a big part if I’m going to spend 4 years of my life there.”

The Mendota Heights, Minnesota junior would like to commit in the fall prior to the start of his senior season of basketball and says his 4 choices are “pretty much set in stone.”

Kansas fell off the radar for Webster shortly after Head Coach Bill Self visited the 6-10 center in the spring.

“That went Ok. Basically all coaches, don’t say the same things, but they all say similar things, and they want to develop a relationship with you and ‘I care about you’ – that’s the norm.”

“I liked Kansas because it’s such an amazing program”, Webster continued. “I would’ve just loved to play for them but after that I didn’t feel like there was anything else about the school that I really liked”.

When Webster was asked if his recruitment process with the Jayhawks had officially concluded – he answered with an emphatic, “yes”.

“I didn’t feel like I was a real priority you know,”, said Webster of the Jayhawks. “I’m not saying I want to be a big star but I want to be a priority.”

The number 7 rated center according to Scout.com added, “…plus I’m looking for a more academic school. That’s something I feel I can really take advantage of.”

Webster will embark on a busy July schedule that will include an appearance at the Nike All-American camp and the Peach Jam.
