This past summer, Alex Legion, of Beverly Hills, MI, seemed to steadily improve his stock each and every event he participated in. The 6-foot-4 guard impressed the scouts so much that he jumped up to 11th in the most recent Scout.com rankings.
With summer basketball now over, Legion is busy working out for coaches and listening to what college coaches have to say, during his in-home visits. So far UCLA, Virginia, Kansas, and Michigan State have been in to see him and Illinois and Michigan are expected to be for in-homes soon.
Legions godfather, Tim Green, said that all the visits have gone well so far, and pointed out that at this point there isn’t a leader and that they like all of the schools on their list. So who is on the list? Green said that the schools with a shot at Legion are Michigan State, Michigan, UCLA, Kansas, Illinois, and Virginia. However he did mention a new school with an outside shot is North Carolina.
“I don’t talk to them on a regular basis and that may prove to hurt them down the road because if I don’t know them, he isn’t going,” Green said when asked about North Carolina.
One school that has been in contact with Green a lot lately is Kansas. The Jayhawks head coach Bill Self was in Michigan on Thursday, and apparently he told Legion that he’s extremely impressed with his basketball game.
“He is real impressed with Alex. He said that he thinks Alex is a hell of a person, and a hell of a basketball player and that he’s the best wing player in the country,” Green said.
“Self is great, I like Self. He’s been around for a while, he’s straight. I can talk to him and feel real comfortable talking to him.”
While Self was visiting with Legion there was talk of setting up a visit to Kansas, but there still isn’t an exact date. There has been talk of Legion visiting Kansas during midnight madness, which is the same weekend as the Kansas vs. Oklahoma football game, however he might be committed to visit elsewhere that weekend.
“I’m going to try and get down there next month for sure,” Green explained. “I was thinking about the Oklahoma game, but the only problem is I already committed to go down to Virginia for that weekend.
“But I haven’t decided, but I did commit to Virginia to go down there. Maybe the next weekend we’ll come down, but I told Coach Self I may come down for that game, I just don’t know.”
Don’t look for a decision from Legion anytime soon, Green has said from the beginning that Legion won’t be committing or signing early.
