Kansas Checks In On Lucas

During the open period, Bill Self and the Kansas staff traveled all over the country to check out a number of prospects.  One prospect that was on the checklist was St. Mary Prep's (MI) PG Kalin Lucas.

Kansas wasn’t the only school to stop by and see the 6-foot point guard.  Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, and Illinois also made trips to Michigan to get a look at him.

“Right now it’s going good right now,” he said about the recruiting process.  “It’s going well.”

Lucas said the schools that are recruiting him the hardest are Michigan, Michigan State, Wake Forest, Kansas, and Illinois.  He also claimed offers from Michigan and Michigan State.  The fourth ranked point guard in the class of 2007 also said that at this time he likes the two in-state schools and Wake Forest the most.

However Lucas did talk about the Kansas Jayhawks and he said he loves the success that their guards often have.

“I look at their guard play and how they push the ball up and everything,” Lucas said about Kansas.  “I like that about them.”

When it comes to the recruiting game, playing time is usually very important to many recruits and it’s not any different with Lucas.

“One of my main factors is I want to go somewhere that I can play right off.  I don’t want to be on the bench,” Lucas explained.  “I want to go somewhere that I can play right off.  I want to make sure that with the player and coaches that I have a good relationship with them and everything.  And feel welcome to the program.”

At this time Lucas is focusing on the upcoming season by lifting weights and working out.  Cross country is taking up quite a bit of his time too, as he runs for his high school team.
