247 Yards From Glory

Kansas football commit Jake Sharp is closing in on his school's all-time leading rushing record. His 4.4-second 40 is helping him gain ground on the record. More inside.

According to Salina High Central Head Coach Marvin Diener, Kansas commit Jake Sharp is about to be the school's all time-leading rusher. He is currently second on the list, through six games, with 4,673 yards in his career. He only needs 247 more yards to set the record and already smashed the school record for touchdowns with 79 (second place is 59). He will probably set the school record for yards with about 260 less carries than the current leader. "In the last 12 years, we have had five tailbacks named as the offensive players of the year in 4A, and Jake is going to surpass all their marks," explained Coach Diener.

It is possible that Sharp could have exceeded the rushing record already, but he has been held back. "Most of our wins are so big, he just doesn't get as many carries as we would like."

He almost set the Salina High Central mark for single-game rushing last week when he went off for 334 yards on only 17 carries with six touchdowns. "We probably should have given him the ball a couple more times. He only needed around 40 more yards for the record."

Sharp committed to KU a while back, he also had a written offer from Colorado State. "There were plenty of other schools showing major interest but Kansas is just a really good fit for Jake. They need some running backs so he might be able to help out immediately. Even if he can't help there right away, he has the ability to contribute on special teams. I really like Coach Mangino and his staff and they say they can use someone as quick as Jake."

There is no doubt the Jayhawks have a quality player heading to Lawrence. "I don't even know where to start when talking about Jake. He is just a tremendous talent. He has big-time speed. He has a time of 10.4 in the 100 meter and a 40 time of 4.4. He is also extremely powerful and sees the field real well. Jake is a threat every time he touches the ball."

Sharp carries a 3.8 core GPA.
