Sherron Collins' coach at Crane, Anthony Longstreet, confirmed the news that broke in this morning’s Chicago Sun-Times.
“He went there for midnight madness and saw exactly what the madness was about,” Longstreet told Phog.Net. “He fell in love with the place as soon as he walked in the gym.”
A quiet kid who has to trust those around him, Collins felt very comfortable with the Kansas players. More than anything, it was the comfort level with his future teammates that sold him.
“The players embraced him, and that was important,” said Longstreet. “They all came up to him and gave him a hug and told him how much they wanted him to be a part of the team.”
According to Longstreet, the comfort level that Collins was able to establish with Bill Self and the rest of the coaching staff was important as well. However, he also mentioned that the Kansas fans helped to play a role in Collins decision to attend Kansas.
“That fan base excited him as well,” said Longstreet. “They were coming up and asking for his autograph and they all wanted to take pictures with him.”
