Four Working Hard for Johnson

Four big-time schools are reportedly in hot pursuit of Houston PF Gary Johnson. Kansas fans might be surprised to know that, according to Johnson, the Jayhawks aren't among the schools working him the hardest. Details inside.

Gary Johnson is a quiet giant.  The 6-foot-7 power forward doesn't say much, but when he gets on the court his game speaks volumes.

Maybe that's why his list consists of a bunch of heavy hitters.  Johnson mentioned Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, and Duke among the schools that were recruiting him the hardest.

One school noticeably missing from that list is the Kansas Jayhawks.  When asked if the Jayhawks were still recruiting him Johnson replied, "They are, but not too hard."

He also said that there were no early favorites in his recruitment.  However Johnson did  say that the four schools recruiting him the hardest are all doing a good job with his recruitment.

"Yeah, I like them," Johnson said referring Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, and Duke.  "But I like everybody at this point.  I like those right now though."

The Aldine HS product has been adamant that academics will play a role in his decision, and the junior in high school already knows what he wants to major in, in college.  The big power forward wants to study Criminal Justice and if basketball doesn't work out for him, he wants to be a parole officer.

With the high schools season quickly approaching Johnson has been working hard to improve a few different parts of his game.

"It's going good so far," he said of practice.  "I've been working on my perimeter game mostly." Top Stories
