Kansas used 6-of-9 shooting from behind the arc to take a 34-31 lead at the break. The first half saw the Jayhawks lead by as many as 13 points, but St. Joseph's used a late run to pull within three going into the halftime. Freshman Brandon Rush started out hot, making his first four attempts from the field. He led Kansas with 10 points in the first stanza.
The two teams went back and forth for much of the second half, but the Jayhawks missed a last-second three point attempt that would have tied the game.
KU was led by Julian Wright's 14 points and eight rebounds. Wright led Kansas in scoring for the second game in a row.
The Jayhawks will next face the University of California in Kansas City on Saturday, Dec. 10. The American Century Investments Shootout is scheduled to tip-off at 11 a.m. in Kemper Arena.
