The two teams went back-and-forth for much of the game, with neither team able to take a commanding lead. The Jayhawks were up three points with four seconds left when Missouri's Thomas Gardner hit a three-point basket to tie the game at 77. Senior Christian Moody had a chance to win it in regulation after he was fouled underneath the basket with 0.4 left on the clock. The two teams headed to overtime, however, after he missed both attempts.
A pair of free throws from Darnell Jackson put Kansas up by one with 1:17 left in the overtime period, but Gardner, who had a career-high 40 points on the evening, hit two free throws of his own 17 seconds later to seal the victory for Missouri.
Freshman guard Mario Chalmers had career highs in both points (22) and assists (eight) for Kansas. Russell Robinson added 12 points and seven assists on the game. Kansas also outrebounded Missouri, 42-32, led by Robinson's eight.
The Jayhawks return home this Saturday, Jan. 21, to face Nebraska in Allen Fieldhouse. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN.
