Ballard Makes (Easy) Decision

Kansas has received a commitment from a young man right in their own back yard. Christian Ballard, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound, athlete, from Free State high in Lawrence has a ton of upside and his decision to commit to the Jayhawks was an easy one.

"He's (Ballard) a home-town boy," said Free State coach Bob Lischer.

"Christian camped at Kansas last year and they stayed on top of him this past year. Kansas was on him pretty heavy so when they finally offered Christian a scholarship, he jumped on it right away because he felt it was the perfect fit."

No, that's not a misprint. Ballard is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound, athlete. He was only 6-1 as a freshman in high school and he hasn't stopped growing. Ballard was moved up to the varsity as a sophomore and started at wide receiver and outside linebacker.

As a junior, he moved to tight end and outside linebacker. He moves extremely well for his size. Ballard is also a very good basketball player and usually drops his weight to around 250-pounds for the hoops season.

"Christian is a real weapon when he catches the ball." Coach Lischer said.

"Christian is an outstanding athlete and he has made some very big plays for us. I think his options are limitless at Kansas. If he can keep his weight around 265-pounds, he could be a very good tight end or rush end on the defensive side of the football."

Ballard had 13 receptions for 178 yards as a junior. He scored two touchdowns but both were called back by penalties. On the defensive side of the ball, Ballard racked up 37 solo tackles and six sacks.

Ballard is a three-sport athlete, in addition to starting on the basketball team, he's also a sprinter on the track team. Christian comes from an athletic family. His mother played volleyball at Temple.

We'll have comments from Christian Ballard in the near future. Top Stories
